Chapter 10
Boost Your Libido and Fertility
Robbing you of your libido may be the most effective way the pill actually works, which is kind of sad and also frustrating, because you start taking it so you can be sexually active without having to worry about having a baby. But once you get on it, you find yourself not interested in sex in the least. You may have heard the pill can ruin your libido, but this often gets brushed off as some kind of urban legend. It’s not. It’s a real thing that happens to women, and it’s just lame. Plus, so many of us turn that finger around and point it right at ourselves, thinking, There must be something wrong with me. Or maybe it’s that I’m just not into this guy anymore. Or maybe you start making excuses like, Hey, this is just how it goes in relationships. It’s just not exciting like it used to be. Or I’m just getting older. While there might be some truth to that conversation you’re having with yourself, odds are, if you’re on hormonal birth control, that’s what’s really robbing you of your libido. And if you’re a gal who’s thinking about having kids, you’re probably sitting back right now and wondering, Wait, don’t I at least have to want to have sex to have a baby? Yeah, that is how it typically works, just in case you needed some reassuring!
On top of being a you-know-what blocker, the pill can seriously mess with your fertility. Most women are told that the pill has very little impact on their fertility and that when they get off it they’ll be able to become pregnant easily: “It’s nothing to worry about.” If you’re someone who’s not interested in making a baby any time soon—or ever—then you may be wondering why in the heck we’re talking about sex and fertility in the same chapter. Here’s a little secret I’m going to let you in on: a fertile female body is one that has a robust libido and killer orgasms. So whether or not you want a baby, I got you here. We’re going to get your libido back, we’re going to get your orgasms back, and when it’s time to have a baby—if that’s in your cards—we’re going to make sure your fertility is taken care of as well.
